How long to stay?
4–5 nights suggested for planning
An island stage
Reggae, coconut dishes and beach life meet on San Andrés. The island lies far from mainland Colombia, forming a region with Providencia and Santa Catalina. Afro-Caribbean, English and Spanish influences shape its traditions, food and daily life.
I allow several nights for the additional journey and time to unpack. With only two nights between mainland stops, transfers can take up much of your stay. Free days let you explore and spend time by the sea.
Choosing your beach setting
Spratt Bight is a lively northern beach in an urban setting. San Luis has a different coastal atmosphere; Cocoplum Bay offers another recognised beach destination. I ask whether you want nearby restaurants and shops or a different coastal base.
I compare the hotel location, surroundings and actual beach access. A sea-view room describes the outlook. Your evenings and returns from activities also help me choose the property.

Raizal culture
Reggae and calypso belong to San Andrés’ Raizal culture. Seafood, coconut and regional ingredients shape island cooking. This culture connects the island with other Caribbean communities.
I can arrange a local visit or an encounter through your accommodation. Hosts’ invitations and guidance determine access and photography. I leave time for conversations about daily life.
Locally run posadas nativas
Posadas nativas offer locally run accommodation, sometimes alongside family life, traditions and island cooking. I compare properties against your privacy, comfort and service requirements. A family trip, honeymoon or active week may need different rooms.
I confirm rooms, bathrooms, breakfast, location, physical access and any air conditioning you need. Those details describe the stay more clearly than an “authentic” label. You receive the property and room information before booking.
Sea activities and days ashore
The sea and underwater habitats draw visitors to the islands. I choose activities around your interests and abilities. A boat or snorkelling day can sit alongside beaches and land outings.
I confirm boat departure, group size, equipment and arrangements for changing weather. For snorkelling, I discuss swimming ability and guidance. The programme includes coral and wildlife protection, with days ashore whenever you prefer.
Island cooking
Rondón is an archipelago dish using coconut milk and fish or other ingredients. Preparations vary. I ask whether you want regional food, vegetarian choices, a quiet dinner or shared cooking.
I confirm ingredients and allergies with the provider. I leave time to enjoy a longer meal and travel back afterwards. Other evenings can remain open for restaurants you choose during the stay.
A five-day route
- Day 1 — Arrival. I arrange your transfer and leave time to settle in. A short nearby walk can introduce the surroundings. The evening stays open around your arrival.
- Day 2 — Island life. I arrange a local guide around culture, coast or an overview of the island. After lunch, I leave time free.
- Day 3 — A sea excursion. I arrange the chosen boat or snorkelling activity, with services and return described beforehand. The rest of the day remains open. I retain a shore option for changing weather.
- Day 4 — Your island day. You can read, visit the beach or choose a restaurant. I can also arrange another activity if you want one.
- Day 5 — Departure. I coordinate breakfast, bags and transfer with your flight. A major excursion has its own day. With another night, you can rest or adjust an earlier outdoor activity.
I adapt the route to your connections, accommodation and chosen activities. Free days can stay within the final itinerary.
Preparing for the islands
Light clothing and sun protection help with island days. I confirm entry documents, local charges and baggage conditions for your booked connection. I keep sea activities open to changes in the conditions.
Questions about San Andrés
Can I add Providencia during the stay?
I plan Providencia as another island stage, with connections and overnight arrangements. It needs time beyond a casual half-day excursion.
How much time should I allow?
I plan four to five nights for beaches, island exploring and snorkelling. For Providencia or more free days, I add further nights.
