When the Pacific takes a breath

Whale Watching in Colombia

A breath at the water’s surface. Then a back rises from the Pacific.

Fins disappear into the water beside the green coast. Beach paths lead into the rainforest behind the shore. I plan your whale-watching trip with four nights at one coastal base.

Humpback whales use the warm coastal waters for breeding and raising their young. I connect your boat outing with forest walks, regional meals and free afternoons. Your stay takes you to Nuquí or Bahía Solano.

Either place adds a coastal chapter to your Colombian journey. You can also choose the Pacific as a separate journey. I plan your days around your interests, comfort preferences and available time.

Nuquí or Bahía Solano?

I plan all four nights at one base. The main differences concern access, surroundings and accommodation. This comparison helps you picture your preferred coastal days more clearly.

I ask about boat experience, quieter surroundings and the activities you want. I also consider your room preferences and onward connections. You can explore further destinations on the interactive map.

My suggestion: five days beside the Pacific

I spread arrival, rainforest, whale watching and free time across five days. You spend all four nights at your chosen base. You can therefore spend an afternoon without another planned activity.

01

Arriving at the coast

Night 1 · your coastal accommodation

I plan your flight to Nuquí or Bahía Solano and transfer to your accommodation. Afterwards, there is time to settle in and see the beach.

02

Rainforest and water

Night 2 · the same accommodation

I arrange a guided walk through forest, to a waterfall or into a nature reserve. Around Nuquí, the springs at Termales can also be part of your day.

03

A breath at sea

Night 3 · the same accommodation

I plan whale watching with local guiding and time for travel, searching and returning. Afterwards, I leave the afternoon free.

04

Your free coastal day

Night 4 · the same accommodation

I leave this day open for rest, beach paths or another activity. I discuss an additional Utría visit with you.

05

Onward travel with an overnight stop

Departure from the coast

I arrange breakfast, your airport transfer and onward flight. Before your international return flight, I add a night inland.

Included and additional arrangements

I prepare your itinerary for five days and four nights at one base. You can see accommodation, meals, activities and local journeys individually. The agreed services form the basis of your booking.

Included

  • Four nights at your chosen base around Nuquí or Bahía Solano.
  • Local airport transfers and agreed journeys to your accommodation.
  • Two guided experiences, including one whale-watching excursion during the season.
  • My travel planning and support with questions before and during your journey.
  • I specify room category, meal arrangements, guiding language, boat type and agreed admissions.

Not included

  • Further excursions and private activities beyond the agreed services.
  • Drinks, local charges and expenses outside the agreed arrangements.
  • Extra nights and your overnight inland before the international return journey.

I show additional services and their costs as separate items. You can also tell me if you prefer less planned activity. I give your free days as much attention as your excursions.

Good to know

  1. Wild whales and distance

I plan boat outings at least 200 metres away to protect the whales. I cannot promise whales, jumps or a particular proximity. For photographs, you can take in both the sea and coastal forest.

  2. Weather and water

I account for rain, swell, visibility, storms and tides when planning routes and outings. Rescheduling, alternatives and additional costs follow the agreed terms. I plan swimming only at suitable places according to local guidance.

  3. Access and nature

For Utría, I establish access, authorised local guiding and entrance fees. For drones, I account for local rules and permissions. I plan photographs of people with their consent; reusable containers reduce waste.

  4. Accommodation and meals

I confirm hot water, electricity, internet, charging and access between your room, boats and forest. Meal packages can be compulsory; I discuss vegetarian food, allergies and intolerances beforehand. Your quote specifies room arrangements, meals and drinks.

Six questions about whale watching

What does my stay cost?

I calculate according to season, party size, room occupancy and accommodation. I list transfers, excursions, drinks, admission fees and extra nights separately. With your travel dates, I can show the full scope and individual costs.

Can I choose a private boat?

I compare private and shared outings according to your wishes. I plan the duration, group size, guiding and costs around your journey. You can also tell me whether photographs or quiet observation matter most.

How does this work with children or limited mobility?

I discuss age, care, boat experience and journeys with you. Boarding, lifejackets, permitted capacity, briefing and communication form part of my preparation. For accommodation, I account for stairs, room access and access to medical care.

How can I connect the coast with Colombia?

I combine the Pacific with Medellín, Bogotá or Cartagena according to your available time. Regional flights can use Olaya Herrera; international connections often use José María Córdova. For airport changes, I plan a city transfer and time for the next check-in.

What should I pack?

I recommend rain protection, quick-drying clothing, closed shoes and a waterproof bag. Medicines, offline documents, insurance details, contacts, cash and a water bottle complete your luggage. I confirm the luggage limits for your regional flight beforehand.

How do I begin planning?

Use the form to share dates, group size, trip length and comfort preferences. I plan the coastal stay as its own journey or within your wider route. Afterwards, you receive my proposal with overnight stays, journeys, meals and experiences.
