How long to stay?
I plan four nights for you. Five nights leave more time for excursions and weather changes.
Three nights offer a short introduction.
Bahía Solano, Ciudad Mutis and the coast
At the harbour, boats are loaded and fish are brought ashore. Ciudad Mutis is Bahía Solano’s main town in the Chocó department. The airport, harbour, shops and services are here.
El Valle lies around 18 kilometres away. You reach other coastal areas by boat. I plan journeys between villages, beaches and bays with you.
Flights, roads and boat journeys
José Celestino Mutis airport uses the code BSC. Clic and SATENA offer regional connections from Medellín. Regional flights use Olaya Herrera (EOH); international flights often use José María Córdova (MDE).
Changing airports involves a city transfer and time for onward travel. The drive to El Valle takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes. More remote coastal accommodation requires a boat transfer.
I arrange flight days, baggage limits, collection and boat times. I allow an inland buffer night before your international return flight.
El Valle, El Almejal, Huina and Mecana
The Río Valle reaches the sea at El Valle. Playa El Almejal combines a broad beach, strong surf and coastal forest. You can spread village visits, beach walks and forest paths over several days.
You reach Huina by boat from Bahía Solano. Mecana combines forest, waterways and local guiding. I arrange boat journeys and guides with local people.

Utría, Río Valle and Cascada El Tigre
Utría protects coastal forest, mangroves, marine areas and a sheltered bay. Around El Valle, Río Valle and forest trails extend the coastal stay. You reach the national park by boat.
Cascada El Tigre combines a coastal boat journey with a walk to the waterfall. Early morning offers time for birdwatching. I arrange forest and water routes with local guides.

Village life and Chocó food
Afro-Colombian and Indigenous communities shape the region. Local guides share their knowledge of rivers, forest and coastal life. Photographs of people require their consent.
Fish, plantain, rice, coconut and regional fruit often appear on the table. Small restaurants and accommodation kitchens offer different insights. I arrange vegetarian meals and information about allergies and dietary needs.
Whale watching July to November
Whale watching July to November. Humpbacks travel to the warm waters of Colombia’s Pacific. You watch them from a boat.
Forest, birds and coastal landscapes also reward visits outside whale season. The climate stays warm and humid throughout the year. I leave time to change the order of excursions.
Clothing, baggage, cash and connection
Light clothing, rain protection, forest shoes and sandals belong in your bag. A waterproof pouch protects your camera and phone. Manageable bags make boat transfers easier.
Mosquito protection and sunscreen complete your day bag. Cash helps with purchases, tips and small payments. I arrange information about card payments, power, hot water and internet.
Five days and four nights
I plan five days and four nights at one base.
Arrival
Flight to Bahía Solano and an arranged transfer. Afterwards, you have time to discover your accommodation’s surroundings.
On the water
During whale season, you head out for an observation trip. Outside the season, I plan a coastal excursion.
Utría or rainforest
A guide accompanies you to Utría or along forest and river routes.
El Valle and beach
Time for the village, a beach walk or another guided excursion. The day can accommodate a rescheduled activity.
Return
Airport transfer and return flight. I leave time before your next international connection.
Bahía Solano or Nuquí?
I plan your coastal stay around the places and excursions you want to discover.
