Santa Marta & Mendihuaca
Mendihuaca, Los Naranjos and Casa Grande lie east of Santa Marta. I plan your surf holiday on this Caribbean coast.
Surf meets the mouth of the Río Piedras. Near Los Naranjos, coastal forest and the Sierra Nevada rise behind the beach.
Surf travel: Los Naranjos
The Río Piedras forms Tayrona National Park's eastern boundary. Its mouth shapes the coastal area of Los Naranjos. River, open sea and forest visibly meet here.
The surfing area lies outside the park on the eastern side. A beach stay and a park visit therefore require different arrangements. I place both experiences within your itinerary.
Los Naranjos is mentioned as a surfing destination for its wave quality. Surfing competitions have also taken place here. Daily assessment of the surf determines the choice of your sessions.
Your experience and conditions at each beach section shape your surf days. I discuss your level with the local school. The waves have given Los Naranjos a place in Colombia's surfing culture.
The Sierra Nevada's foothills reach this coastal region. Forest, riverbanks and accommodation lie behind the beach. The scenery differs clearly from Santa Marta's city centre.
You can focus on the beach or include a visit to the city. Your accommodation's location determines your daily journeys. I consider your preferred number of nights when planning.
Mendihuaca lies beside another river mouth along the same coastline. Casa Grande is another neighbouring surfing area. Each section receives a concrete name and access route in your plan.
Changing beaches can add further surfing impressions to your stay. I coordinate additional journeys with your local guide. A separate day for a Tayrona excursion can remain within your itinerary.
I plan your Los Naranjos stay around its surfing beach, river mouth and neighbouring coast.
