A base among coffee hills
Colourful houses line Salento’s streets among Colombia’s coffee-growing hills. The region extends around Pereira, Armenia and Manizales, with farming, mountains and smaller towns. Salento gives access to Cocora; Filandia adds architecture and crafts.
I compare a rural finca, village hotel and city hotel around your meals and outings. From one base, I can combine several parts of the region. You can unpack once and return after each day trip.
The Coffee Cultural Landscape
UNESCO’s Coffee Cultural Landscape recognises mountain farming, settlements and knowledge passed through generations. The designation covers selected areas within the wider coffee region. Small plots and family businesses are central to that tradition.
Homes also served as workplaces. Bahareque combines frames with woven or joined materials; bamboo features in regional construction. Finca visits can connect family life, the farming year and coffee processing.

An afternoon in Salento
Salento combines colourful houses, traditional buildings and access to Cocora. I leave half a day for streets, shops, a meal and a locally recommended viewpoint. You can explore the town without fitting it around a long excursion.
I compare walking distance to the centre, night noise and excursion pickups. A balcony photograph shows part of the building. Its location also determines your mornings, dinners and return journeys.
Filandia’s crafts
Filandia stands on a hill above the coffee landscape, with coloured wooden balconies. Baskets woven from plant fibres connect craft traditions with coffee cultivation. I can include workshops alongside the town and countryside.
I leave time for a demonstration or conversation about how an object is made. You can buy directly from a maker or workshop if something interests you. I add a meal and town walk, with overnight stays depending on your route.
Walking in the Cocora Valley
Cocora’s wax palms rise above one of the region’s best-known landscapes. Short palm walks and longer circular hikes need different amounts of time and effort. I choose the route around your interests and walking abilities.
I compare distance, climbs, ground conditions, weather and the needs of everyone travelling. Sturdy shoes and rain protection help along the route. I allow rest before the return, whether you travel with children or enjoy longer hikes.
Your coffee-farm visit
A finca visit can focus on farming, processing or comparing coffee preparations. I confirm language, group size and the stages you will see. I leave time for questions alongside the tasting.
I explain whether the visit includes transfers and a tasting. A second farm can add another focus if its programme differs. If you prefer other interests, I include more landscape, villages and crafts.
Transfers, meals and evenings
Pereira and Armenia are arrival points for Filandia and the surrounding area. I compare the whole journey from the airport to your accommodation. The hotel’s actual address matters alongside the airfare.
For four or five nights, I often choose one base; two can serve different areas. At a remote finca, I confirm access, meals, bags and returns from outings. A village hotel can give you restaurants to choose each evening.
A five-day route
- Day 1 — Arrival. I arrange the transfer to your finca or village hotel. The remaining hours stay free. I book dinner ahead when the location calls for it.
- Day 2 — Coffee and countryside. I arrange the finca visit after breakfast, with time for questions and lunch. Afterwards, you can rest or take a short walk following local advice.
- Day 3 — Cocora Valley. I arrange a morning departure for the route chosen during planning. After the walk, I leave a break and free evening. Another long excursion can wait.
- Day 4 — Village life. You can spend time in Filandia or Salento with buildings, crafts and daily life. I leave the afternoon for lunch or a longer photography stop.
- Day 5 — Departure. I allow time for breakfast and the transfer. With another night, this day can accommodate changes to the hike. I keep a long outing away from a tightly timed flight.
I can exchange walking, village visits and finca days within the route. The order follows the conditions during your stay.
Packing and questions
Light clothes, a warmer layer and rain protection help with the mountain weather. I leave time to adjust outdoor visits during your stay.
Salento or Filandia?
I choose the base around your excursions and evenings, often Salento for Cocora. Filandia adds architecture, crafts and views of the coffee landscape.
Do I need to enjoy coffee?
No, I can focus on villages, scenery and crafts. Your stay can include more nature and fewer tastings.
Are two nights enough?
Two nights work for a single focus. I suggest four to five nights for a finca, hike, villages and rest.
